No to $3 Trillion Ammo Expenditures, Disarm!

November 11, 2009

While millions of people are dying of hunger in some very poor nations, the global military expenditure tops $1 trillion per year. United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon finds this an alarming happening, asking all nations to start redirecting their war funds to peace goal projects. In his released statements he said that more and more weapons are produced, “flooding markets, destabilizing societies, and feeding the flames of civil war and terror.”

It is not yet disclosed which countries are spending the highest people taxes to armors and combat equipments. Still, it will be very easy to conclude with the present security situations in the world. The United States has yet to retract their international guards and definitely consuming so much tactical equipments to sustain their battalions of soldiers in the Middle East. The Middle East, on the other hand, is also countering these actions with their own troops. Other nations who are also terrorizing world peace is also using so much for their own goals. Sometimes, it is hard to contain a simple thought. What if all of these cruelties happening in the world are just fabricated by the same people manufacturing these destructive equipments and tools? That wouldn’t be surprising.

In all of these, the United Nations office is neither deaf nor blind. In the hope of redirecting what seems to be the focus of most powerful nations, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon reaches more and more country leaders to disarm. He will also speak at the Religions for Peace Global Youth Campaign on Disarmament for Shared Security conference in Costa Rica on Saturday where some 150 youth leaders of different religious traditions will be attending.
