Senator Chiz Escudero resigns from his post as the Nationalist People’s Coalition President after his 11 years of tenure. The young senator has nothing to say more than his accusations of being in ‘handcuffs’ in his party and that he is not a rich, which raged the party’s top brass and even some long time members. The sudden move was attributed to the non- committal of the party’s top guy, Danding Cojuangco, who is the uncle of both Noynoy Aquino and Gilbert Teodoro.
The senator is expected to run for the 2010 Presidential elections with Senator Loren Legarda, who have earlier announced her intentions for the second high seat at the Quirino grandstand. Chiz is also doing well in the surveys, so what was something wrong? Earlier, and before Senator Legarda is supposed to announce her intentions, Escudero was supposed to announce his own plans but was cancelled at the last minute. What most people eyed to be the culprit is the chairman emeritus of the party, Danding Cojuangco. Rumors have it that the tycoon did not approved of the solicited budget for Excudero’s plans; thus the abrupt shift.
Most politicians have doubted the intentions of Chiz Escudero. Senator Francis Pangilinan called the abrupt move as a gambit. The same are in the minds of most senators, ally or not to the young Escudero. The real question is what really happened beyond the closed doors of NPC? Was is money matters that compelled the 11-year member to move out?
